SYRACUSE - Sound and Space and the Stage City

Within the European framework of the project the province of Syracuse will concentrate on finding a contact and implementing an exchange with the Mediterranean areas which, in any way, will prove to be linked to the important events of the history of the city (i.e. Malta, Spain, Greece, a series of fortified towns).

- Sounds and Space - Syracuse: Baroque City.
Music and other initiatives performed inside baroque architectonic structures.
Performances inspired by works written by Homer, Vergil, T. Tasso and set in the Mediterranean area.
Performances inspired by Ovid's metamorphosis myths.
Stage-Cities - Locations and tradition.
Music and other initiatives in the monumental places which are representative of the history of the city: the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Arethusa spring, the Cathedral's square.
- Topicality of the Middle Ages - Liturgic Music at Normans' time.
The repertoire of the renown Sicilian liturgic codices are kept at present in Madrid. Their content (which proposes tropes, sequences, mystery plays, polyphonic compositions etc.) stimulates a deeper analysis of the Sicilian musical sources.

Promoted by the Administrative Body of the City of Syracuse
Organization: Centro Internazionale di Studi sul Barocco in Sicilia (International Centre of Researh on the Baroque in Sicily)

All initiatives will take place between 27th September and 6th October 1996
