1996 - "CULTURE OF THE SEAS"

Sardinia - Witness of Times

Special attention will be drawn to the following topics (popular devotion, the Romantic world, the musical theatre and its relation to popular culture) and to a deeper analysis of the figure of Manuel de Falla and Federico Garcia Lorca.
All performances and initiatives will be carried out in cooperation with Spain and in the theatres of Sassari and Alghero. The project will be promoted by the local Administration of the City of Sassari and its programme, as for the theatrical aspects, will concentrate specially on the activity of the Traditional Theatre of Sassari. A deeper analysis of the medieval culture will be fostered and carried out in cooperation with the Administration of the Province of Sassari.
Within the European framework of the project the province of Sassari will concentrate on finding a contact and implementing an exchange with Spain and in particular with Barcelona and Catalonia

- Topicality of the Middle Ages - Il Canto delle Pietre. Medieval music performed in coeval architectonic structures (monumental buildings and churches).
- Popular culture and folk (ethnical) music. The Mediterranean ports: performances and initiatives with the participation of local groups and ensembles devoted to the study of past and present Mediterranean usage and customs.
- The City as a Stage. Musical theatre and popular culture: the link between these two cultural aspects presented through puppet theatre and the musics by famous composers who have drawn near to past traditional genres.
